Construction Products Regulation (CPR)
Fires in buildings take a heavy toll on human lives. In 2015, 343 people lost their lives in Germany alone due to smoke, fire and flames, 206 of them in buildings or structures. The most common cause of death in fires is exposure to toxic gases or smoke, which claims about 92 percent of all victims in buildings. (Data: Federal Statistical Office)
The Construction Products Regulation EU Nr. 305/2011 lays down harmonised rules for the marketing of construction products in the EU.
What is a “construction product”?
“‘construction product’ means any product or kit which is produced and placed on the market for incorporation in a permanent manner in construction works or parts thereof and the performance of which has an effect on the performance of the construction works with respect to the basic requirements for construction works…”.(Source: EU Nr. 305/2011)
Cables and Wires are divided in 7 different so called Euro Classes. Properties like development of smoke, drops or acids are added to this classification and will be documented in the declaration of performance. The certification is done by a notified body.
The declaration of performance has to be issued in the language the defined by the country, in which the product is made available in the market.
